CALL TO ORDER: President Kay Shelton called the meeting to order 7:10 p.m. CDT

ATTENDANCE: The following board members reported present:
Kay Shelton, president (IL); Sue Jacobson, secretary (IL); Jess Petersen, treasurer (UT); Bob Dieterich, Executive Advisor (CA); Jerry Peppers (NY); Paula Reynolds (NJ); Rosemary Rubin (OH); Ronnie O'Brien (NE); Jerry Hansen (WY); Bob Beaudoin (UT); Brian Butko-At Large #1 (PA); Van Becker --At Large #3; Ron Colson-At Large #4 (IL). Absent: Jeff Blair (IN); Jeff LaFollette (IA); Tim Wunsch (CO); Jim Bonar (NV) There being a quorum, Bob Dieterich made the motion to proceed with the meeting, seconded by Jerry Hansen; carried

MINUTES: Secretary Jacobson had sent the minutes of the last meeting April 26, 2012 to the board electronically for their perusal. Jerry Peppers (NY) made the motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Bob Dieterich ; carried

TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurer Petersen reported the following:
--Checking account balance...........$33,600
--Owe state chapters $387/$16,00 owed to Life Membership
--Will move that amount to Life Membership Certificate of Deposit
--Will get additional CD for Life Membership money (will have 2 CDs)
--2012 Conference in Canton, OH netted $12,000
(See attached for a more detail report) Bob Dieterich (CA) made the motion to accept the report, seconded by Jerry Peppers (NY); carried

OLD BUSINESS:
A--President's message in The Forum--Vice President needed for the LHA
B--Cost to mail The Forum overseas is $ 8 - $10 per copy, which amounts to approximately $35 - $40 per year
--Some organizations do have Foreign Postage added on their policy
--Renewal notice will need to be sent with foreign renewals concerning postage
--Jess said Cassler reported Spring Forum issue costs $6
--Everyone will be notified of this thru The Forum, by way of Jay Banta
--Rosemary Rubin suggested adding $30 to annual membership fee
--Henning (Norwegian rep) made the requirement of all his car tour people to join the LHA; possibly send electronically
--President Shelton will ask Henning what file they use....Possibly PDF file, hence no fee...This would attract new members. Motion by Jess Petersen (UT) to add $24 surcharge to foreign membership fee, seconded by Jerry Peppers (NY); carried
C--Bathrooms for HQs--Need action to use $5,000 payable to Farming Heritage Inc. for split forced concrete blocks and bricks for the walkway.
D--Press Releases: CA has someone who puts out such releases for tours,etc.
--Need for states to compile a list with such information to be posted on line--reporters look for local area codes among the contact list
--Put a call out for volunteers to help with press releases (John Peters in FL was suggested as a good contact..Rosemary Rubin (OH) will contact him)
--Jerry Peppers (NY) reported that his NY public relations recommended waiting until after Labor Day to put out a release since so many people are away for the summer

--Question about Medicine Bow stop at Virginian Hotel...stop will be lunch stop of 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours. 100th year for Virginian and 150 years for the RR
--Rosemary Rubin (OH) has brochures for the car tours 2013; daily update on e-mail about registration, locations and other information...will send to those requesting them
D--Call for Volunteers in next Forum: Publicity, Fund-raising, Business and Business and Commercial Enterprise Outreach
E--Electric Car Recharging Stations: A gentleman from OH is excited about getting electric car recharge places on the LH. Bob Dieterich (CA) thought he was a guide on the Amish Tour at the OH Conference. President Shelton suggested the Ohio man do the work involved.
F--Nolan Stolz, "Lincoln Highway Suite"; see http://www.nolanstolz.com/lh He is a music professor from ND or SD and is writing a musical score entitled "The Lincoln Highway Suite". He asked for a letter of support for his efforts.
--Russell Rein collects songs about the Lincoln Highway
--President Shelton (IL) will write a letter of support and give him other sources for grant money, but not from us

BOOK REPORT: Brian Butko (PA)reported the following concerning the Centennial Book:--Moving along well
--Many people have sent scans and digital photos, which he is holding and organizing in Dropbox
--Leading contributor is Russell Rein who sent hundreds of rare postcard scans---more than can possibly be used
--These will be used in conjunction with modern photos and images from the University of Michigan archives
--Still finishing the update to his Greetings from the LH Book
--The Centennial book will be printed well before the LHA Conference so it can be used for publicity
--Need to know who will be doing publicity for the book
--Also, how many books will be needed for sending to legitimate reviewers and feature writers
Paula Reynolds (NJ) requested information about the NJ Chapter, Bob will get Jimmy Lin in contact with her
--Jess Petersen (UT)reported there is no organized NJ Chapter, hence no money in the chapter to get funds
--Jerry Peppers (NY) told Paula they'd try to put together a chapter at a luncheon meeting
--Rosemary Rubin (OH), explained to Paula the approximate time the Car Tour would be coming through NJ; she plans to work with Paula. Plans are to drive through Princeton, NJ June 22, 2013 for a coffee break or lunch; Jim Peters would be happy to talk with Paula concerning this
--President Shelton (IL) will talk with Paula about organizing a chapter with officers, by-laws needed, etc. Kay has a PowerPoint she will send to Paula
--Jess Petersen (UT) told the group that early on,there was a Northeast Chapter consisting of NY/NJ

CENTENNIAL TOURS: Rosemary Rubin (OH) reported the following:
--Tour brochures were dispensed all through the conference at Canton, OH
--Reprints to Paul Gilger (daily requests will be sent to Bob Lichty
--People are to call Rosemary and she'll send whatever number of brochures they need.
--Link on website with maps is up and running
--May 9th, 2013 deadline as to who will be in the tours
--Working on hotels......17 Holiday Inns to date
--The Route is planned/events/overnights/luncheons, etc.
--Need a contact person in each LH state
--Need two drivers (volunteer) to drive trailers...one from the east and one from the west (paid for by the tour committee)
--Need information in the Forum ; will contact Kathy Franzwa
--Registration Fee includes: map, Centennial Book, shirt, car decal, tote bag, tickets for some meals
--Maps are available on line for both tours east and west; special access code for participants
Jess Petersen (UT) had Kathy Franzwa with him to inform Rosemary of the information for the Forum:
--Sarah Focke and Ronnie O'Brien (NE) have been in contact with Kathy about information they'll provide to Kathy for the Fall, Winter and Spring issues:
--A page or two in each issue until conference time, will include pictures
--Rosemary will contact Sarah and Ronnie to be sure they include tour information
